About Me

I am a multimedia artist and senior undergrad at the University of Minnesota completing a BA in Art with a Psychology minor. A deep interest in mediums and modalities as they relate to the body’s healing mechanisms, self reflection, and play are central motivations of my work. Chalk, graphite, gesso, colored pencil, and crayons are favorites when working flat surfaces in which mark making is an emotive exploration, alive with discoveries and inviting of broad interpretations.

In three dimensions I investigate translucence, light, and found materials like paper, string, and branches in vertical space. In recent digital works I explore personal and ancestral identities as well as masks and masking. In contrast to the digital, I am also diving into the world of home-made, plant based pigments and dyes - a new realm of wizardry to be be sure!

Having built a career as a chef and culinary arts instructor since 2003, my art is informed both by the tactile and sensory experience of mediums (ingredients!) and tools (agents of change!), and by the somatic interplay of creative exercise and personal psychology. I have evolved a practice that provides the framework for a rich, process-oriented exploration.

After graduating, I will pursue a masters degree in Art Therapy to further synthesize my love of material engagement and psychology into a career that strengthens and heals in community. Currently I am working on a series that explores the power of single words or mantras combined through color and repetition.

I have a lot of love for my home turf here in Minneapolis and enjoy parenting a teen, rabbit-holing various and sundry ologies, being outside as much as possible, and keeping houseplants alive.
